lemons

Mario Petrucci

lemons
their bowled
sheen
more yellow

lop-sided
phrenological
eggs

goosebumped
&
nippled -

some shells
paler
as the yolk

in sickened
hens –
one darker

green-flecked:
a desert
planet finally

finding life -
how
deeply I see

& am
seen – each
one-eyed

jaundiced look
I
lift and slice

for my glass
to squeeze
& pour

the small
extracted
self

mistook
for fruit
now

sharp
with what I
seemed
