March Landscape Notes
A pastel backcloth to birdsong
that sighs and warbles —
see it as a tapestry that shivers
or a swelling and receding curtain.
Green and wet the unfolded leaves
and lining the stone bancals,
soft music of mauve and sherbet.
There are a thousand versions of this.
The sun unpacks its bandages
and standing over the arums
watches bumbling blossom of rosemary –
the moving calligraphy of bending rushes.
