| Patchword
was founded in 2000, the brainchild of Gwyneth Box, the current editor.
During her professional career, Gwyneth has worn many hats: IT specialist, housewife, language teacher, freelance writer and translator She hopes that Patchword is a vehicle whereby she can bring together all her talents and interests in one venture. At the time of Patchword's foundation, there are many literary sites on the web. Whether there are many good literary sites is another matter. So many are written by writers with no IT experience, IT experts with no talent for design, individuals who lose interest after the first six months, commercial teams with little interest in the personal touch etc. We have the advantage of being able to rely on a small multidisciplinary team with experience in language, design, traditional and web publishing and IT. And, although we hope Patchword will grow, we are pledged to keep the site up to date and active. Patchword is intended to be of primary interest to writers, both new and experienced. Our articles and links pages reflect this. We have chosen to include poetry but not fiction because we feel that the nature of poetry makes it more suitable for on-line reading. We intend to showcase both published and unpublished writers - our interest lies in what is said and how it's said, not who says it. Obviously, the most important influence on the success or otherwise of Patchword is the reaction of you, the reader. Please let us know what you think. We promise to listen to all your comments - though we don't guarantee to implement all recommendations! |
