Seen from the Train

On the dark slate roof of the symmetrical chapel
With its walls of ochre stone
Is written "Christ has redeemed us all with his blood."

If it were so it would be good,
But it is not so, though he did bleed -
So it is only sad.

How can people be blind
To the desperate unredeemed kind
Of lives they lead?
