Hello and welcome to the August 2001 edition of Patchword.

So, Patchword is a year old, and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed to the site, with articles, poems and other writing, or just with their opinions.

And another big thank you goes to all the other 'invisible' contributors out there - the readers. You are every bit as important as those whose work appears on the site - if it weren't for you, I'd be talking to myself!

Remember that we've got big changes planned in the next few months, with a new version of the site in the pipeline.

Now is the the moment to let me know if you can think of anything that is missing from the present Patchword, which you would like to see included in the future.

We're already intending to add a section for non-fiction and essays, as well as writing for children which will include book reviews, poetry, excerpts etc for younger readers.

And of course we will continue to publish articles about writing, poetry, humour and book recommendations, and we'll keep you up to date with competition information.

There will still be a time out section with quizzes and other fun stuff, too - I'm a great believer in work being tempered with other activities.
