Conversation with a Cat

Alan J. Carter

This poem first appeared in Quantum Leap 11, August 2000.

I called my cat
He wouldn't come,
He turned with haughty air.
He paused upon the garden wall
And fixed me with a stare.
Said I "You do not know
You're living pal."
Said he "I think I do"
Said I "You really
please yourself"
Said he
"What else to do?"
Said I "Just come
Whene'er you're called.
That's not too much now, Mog?"
Said he "Not me.
I disagree.
Get yourself a dog!"
